Marathon County inspections: One restaurant receives 10 violations, another reinspected 3 times

The following are the latest results of Marathon County Health Department inspections on licensed food establishments and other types of businesses, which the Wausau Daily Herald reports monthly.

Athens

  • The Hall Bar and Bowl, 221 Caroline St.: March 1: No violations.

Hatley

  • Perry & Tina's Family Tradition, 173130 State 153: March 26: No violations.

Marathon

  • Subway No. 134, 670 Maratech Ave.: Nov. 29: 13 violations: Meatballs in marinara not at proper temperature; sliced cucumbers, tomatoes and turkey not at proper temperature; no backflow preventer between the hose and faucet end of mop sink faucet; person in charge not monitoring food temperatures for foods during hot and cold holding; meat and vegetable banes not large enough to hold foods at proper temperatures; handwashing sink, located left of the four-compartment sink, drains very slowly; thermometer in beverage cooler not easily readable; current food protection manager’s certificate not posted; faucet of four-compartment sink leaking and in poor condition; vinyl tile in front of receiving door damaged and pieces are missing; floor and wall junctures not coved; receiving door not tight fitting; retail food establishment permit not posted in a conspicuous area in establishment. Reinspection: Jan. 18: Five violations: drain of handwashing sink, located to the left of four-compartment sink, drains very slowly; faucet at four-compartment sink is leaking and in poor condition; vinyl tile in front of receiving door damaged and pieces are missing; receiving door not tight fitting; retail food establishment permit not posted in a conspicuous area in establishment. Reinspection: Feb. 21: Three violations: Vinyl tile in front of the receiving door damaged and pieces missing; receiving door not tight fitting; retail food establishment not posted in a conspicuous area in establishment. Reinspection: March 22: Three violations: Vinyl tile in front of the receiving door damaged and pieces are missing; receiving door not tight fitting; retail food establishment permit not posted in a conspicuous place.

Mosinee

  • Casa Mezcal, 420 Fourth St.: March 7: Two violations: Tilapia thawed in sealed bag; food prep sink being used as a handwashing sink.

  • Meyer's Landing, 203031 State 34: March 19: One violation: Consumer advisory on menu missing disclosure statement.

  • Paper City Lanes, 309 Third St.: March 8: One violation: No certified food manager for establishment.

  • Salty Bones, 145727 State 153: March 20: Five violations: Soup held in small cooler not at proper temperature (corrected during inspection); all reduced-oxygen packaged fish not properly thawed; consumer advisory on menu missing disclosure statement; larger juice jugs need to be labeled with the contents; garage door has large gap on bottom.

  • Subway No. 135, 490 Orbiting Drive: March 29: One violation: Items in walk-in cooler not at proper temperature.

Rib Mountain

  • Subway, 4300 Rib Mountain Drive: March 26: Two violations: Sanitizer mixing valve dispensing more than label instructed amounts of sanitizer; person in charge unable to demonstrate knowledge of proper sanitization methods for utensils and food contact surfaces.

Rothschild

  • Econolodge, 1510 Marathon County XX: March 26: One violation: Cream cheese in the countertop refrigerator not held at proper temperature.

Schofield

  • Hoehn's Huddle, 840 Grand Ave.: March 1: Four violations: Shell eggs and vacuum-sealed raw steak items stored over fully cooked prime rib (corrected during inspection); temperature sensitive food items in coolers not date marked; menu consumer advisory does not indicate which items can be served undercooked; plastic bins and shelves used to hold cleaned utensils, wares and cooking equipment dirty.

  • Pro Players Sports Bar & Grill, 206 Grand Ave.: March 12: One violation: Number of items in the walk-in cooler beyond date marks.

  • The Palms Supper Club, 5912 Business State 51 S.: March 26: No violations.

  • Wausau Country Club, 208 Country Club Road: March 6: Six violations: Employee not washing hands after removing soiled single-use gloves and before putting on new gloves; blue cheese dressing and BBQ sauce both exceeded date marks (corrected during inspection); person in charge not monitoring handwashing activities of employees; salad dressing squeeze bottles not labeled with common name of food; kitchen ware-washing machine does not have easily readable data plate; hit touch point areas, such as cooler doors, dirty.

Wausau

  • Ciao, 307 Third Ave.: March 24: No violations.

  • Courtyard by Marriott, 1000 22nd Ave.: March 12: No violations.

  • El Tequila Salsa, 151522 Marathon County NN: March 5: Five violations: Employees not washing hands after removing soiled single-use gloves before putting on new gloves; person in charge not monitoring employee handwashing; kitchen handwashing sink used to wash jalapenos and tomatoes; water squeeze bottles on cooking line not labeled; container used to store taco salad bowls not certified.

  • Great Dane Pub & Brewery, 2305 Sherman St.: Feb. 15: 10 violations: Two sanitizer buckets with no measurable amount of sanitizing agent in main kitchen; temperature-sensitive foods not date marked in coolers; cutting boards in main kitchen heavily soiled; handwashing sink in main kitchen dirty; no single-use toweling or other hand drying device available at downstairs kitchen handwashing sink; hot holder and south counter cooler lack thermometers for monitoring temperatures inside; plastic containers and related items significantly cracked or chipped; storage rack in downstairs walk-in cooler contained food residue and debris on wired shelves with uncovered pans of cooling cheese sauce below; food-contact plastic pans found not to be stacked in an interlocking fashion while not fully dry; door in receiving area has small gap on the lower hinge side. Reinspection: March 29: No violations.

  • Hardee's of Stettin, 2609 Stewart Ave.: March 29: Eight violations: Apple turnovers in front-of-house hot holding unit not at proper temperature; person in charge not monitoring hot holding temperatures; no test kit for monitoring sanitizer concentration; outside of plastic food storage pans and lids in walk-in cooler dirty; squeeze bottles for condiments and sauces on cookline not labeled with contents; hamburger buns falling out of toasting machine onto surfaces not intended for food contact; exterior of dish machine dirty; men's room floor dirty.

  • iHop, 2008 N. Mountain Road: March 29: No violations.

  • Jimmy Johns, 2205 Stewart Ave.: March 20: Two violations: Employee's open beverage can in sandwich preparation area; cellphone set on back of slicer (corrected during inspection).

  • Kentucky Fried Chicken, 222 Stewart Ave.: March 15: Five violations: Chicken tenders not cooked to proper temperature (corrected during inspection); person in charge not verifying employees cooking food to proper temperatures; thermometer not accurate; thermometer in walk-in cooler not easily readable (corrected during inspection); floor tiles in front of food prep sink and floor drain by the fryer missing.

  • Nancy's Jamars Countryside Bar, 158241 E. Wausau Ave.: Four violations: Sliced tomato and tartar sauce in kitchen reach-in cooler not held at proper temperature; person in charge not measuring food temperatures during cold holding; pail storing shrimp on floor of walk-in cooler; single-use food containers being reused as food storage containers.

  • Night School Night Club, 320 Ross Ave.: March 18: Four violations: Handwashing sink in main bar blocked by garbage can; working container with unknown content not labeled with common name of product behind main bar; booze bottles in use stored directly next to handwashing sink and on handwashing sink front shelf; women's bathroom faucets loose and not secured to the sink.

  • Toppers Pizza, 1700 Stewart Ave. Suite 200: March 6: Five violations: New pizza boxes stored open-faced under cleaning chemicals (corrected during inspection); tater tots cooling at ambient temperature on oven rack (corrected during inspection); metal conveyor belt of pizza oven dirty; floors under prep table contain accumulations of pizza topping ingredients; cleaned plastic pans wet-stacked on rack.

  • Willow Springs Garden, 5480 Hillcrest Drive: March 21: Four violations: A pan containing packages of ground beef stored over a pan of deli meats in two-door cooler (corrected during inspection); person in charge unable to demonstrate knowledge of proper methods regarding reheating of foods for hot holding; person in charge not provided food safety training to employees on cooler organization to prevent raw foods from being stored above ready to eat foods; slow cookers for reheating not approved.

Weston

  • Patron Mexican Restaurant and Bar, 4403 Schofield Ave.: March 19: Six violations: Person in charge not knowledgeable on proper temperatures and timeframes for the safe cooling and reheating of foods; four bags of raw chicken thawing in standing water in kitchen prep sink (corrected during inspection); counter-mounted can opener dirty (corrected during inspection); several foods found stored uncovered in walk-in cooler and walk-in freezer; several plastic bins for storing cleaned lids and utensils found dirty; back room receiving door propped open with towel (corrected during inspection).

  • Pho Zone, 4204 Schofield Ave.: March 7: Five violations: Sanitizer in the ware-washing machine not being used according to label instructions; person in charge not monitoring proper sanitization techniques in the food establishment; insufficient water temperature at kitchen handwashing sink by dishwasher; prep table not equipped with permanently affixed thermometer (corrected during inspection); interior and exterior of cooling equipment dirty.

  • Pizza Hut No. 032799, 2701 Schofield Ave.: March 19: Four violations: Single-use plastic bowls for pasta items stored face down on wire rack with heavy accumulation of food residue and debris; cases of traditional style chicken wings stored on floor of walk-in freezer (corrected during inspection); upright hot-holding unit not equipped with a permanently affixed thermometer; pizza oven conveyor belt, rollers, catch trays and other internal surfaces heavily soiled.
