Map: What citizens around the world worry about most
People around the world are most worried about jobs and corruption in their countries, according to global research firm Ipsos.
In the latest edition of an ongoing poll, the UK-based firm presented respondents with 17 general concerns and asked them which three worried them most. Results showed that the 18,000 respondents in 2017 were most concerned with jobs, corruption, and poverty.
“Lots of countries are concerned about unemployment, but it’s less of a concern in developed countries – like US, Canada, Great Britain,” said Michael Clemence, a research manager at the firm.
The survey has run every month since March 2010, with almost the same questions asked year after year in 26 countries.
“In May 2010, 51% of all those surveyed said that unemployment was a big worry for them. But the number is much lower in May 2018 — 34% of people are concerned about unemployment. It has been a slow decline over the few years,” said Clemence.
“In the United States in particular, concern over unemployment has fallen as well from 55% in May 2010, to 19% this May.”
He attributed the high numbers in 2010 to the financial crash, when people were very concerned about job security. But that worry has since ebbed.
