How many registered sex offenders are in Chula Vista?

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — Chula Vista officials on Thursday conducted a citywide audit of registered sex offenders.

The audit found there are almost 260 people registered as sex offenders in Chula Vista, Caitlin Clark with the Chula Vista Police Department said in a news release.

Sex offenders in California are placed into three tiers, with one being the lowest risk to the public, while tiers two and three represent more of a risk. The audit reported 192 of the almost 260 people were categorized under tiers two and three.

“Out of 157 residences visited, 170 compliance checks were completed and 22 are pending an additional visit,” Clark said. “Of those completed, 137 registrants were verified as being in compliance, 1 was arrested for an unrelated felony warrant, and 8 are still being evaluated by detectives.”
