How many distracted drivers have been cited in April?

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — April is Distracted Driver Awareness Month. Around the Capital area, Michigan State Police troopers have been busy enforcing recent changes to state laws.

So far this month, the First District post in Lansing has issued 129 citations to people who were holding their cell phones while driving.

Holding a cell phone is now against the law in Michigan, even when you are at a complete stop. State police have been urging everyone to use a phone mount and go hands-free behind the wheel.

The post also reported more than 90 citations in April for seatbelt violations, and 23 for careless driving.
