Mandel Jewish Community Center in Beachwood evacuated for chemical odor

BEACHWOOD, Ohio (WJW) — Firefighters evacuated the Mandel Jewish Community Center on Monday afternoon after a report of a chlorine smell throughout the building.

Firefighters responded at about 12:30 p.m. on Monday to the South Woodland Road facility, according to a news release.

Firefighters “determined that it would be safest to evacuate the building,” reads the release.

The Southeast Regional Hazmat team responded to the center on Monday to investigate the cause.

Officials are expected later to release the results of studies at the center, according to the release.
