Manchester City Councilwoman arrested for allegedly making false statements and violating public officer oath

MANCHESTER, Ga. (WRBL) — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has arrested a Manchester City Councilwoman.

Tameka Lowe, 46, is being charged with two counts of false swearing and one count of violation of oath by a public officer, according to the GBI.

The charges stem back to Feb. 8 when the Manchester Police Department asked GBI to investigate allegations of Lowe falsifying her criminal history record on election paperwork.

The GBI said Lowe gave false info on a “Notice of Candidacy and Affidavit” while applying to run for a Manchester City Council role. According to the bureau, she then falsely swore to the City of Manchester Oath of Public Officer after being elected to that City Council position.

Lowe was booked into the Meriwether County Jail.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the GBI regional investigative office in Columbus at (706) 565-7888

Under Georgia law, false swearing is defined as: “A person to whom a lawful oath or affirmation has been administered or who executes a document knowing that it purports to be an acknowledgment of a lawful oath or affirmation commits the offense of false swearing when, in any matter or thing other than a judicial proceeding, they knowingly and willfully makes a false statement.

An example of false swearing could be signing an affidavit while knowing it contains false information.
