Manatee County school bus carrying 4 students involved in crash

MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — Four students were aboard a Manatee County school bus when it collided with another vehicle early Thursday morning.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the 51-year-old bus driver was traveling westbound in the right turn lane on SR-70 in Bradenton at around 6:42 a.m.

A 52-year-old man driving a Sedan was stopped at the red light on the same road to the bus’s left.

As the school bus driver went to take a right turn onto northbound 5th Street West, the left side of the bus hit the right side of the Sedan. FHP said the collision occurred because the bus driver failed to maintain a safe distance from the other car.

The four students were not injured.

The crash remains under investigation by FHP.
