Manatee County deputy accused of domestic violence on romantic partner

MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — A Manatee County deputy is being accused of domestic violence on a woman he had an on-and-off relationship with, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials responded to a report of domestic violence on Thursday evening where they discovered that Timothy Downey, Jr., 31, put his hands on the woman when she had asked him not to.

Downey Jr. was arrested on a charge of domestic battery and has resigned while being investigated.

The now-former deputy was hired in July 2018 in the Patrol Division.

The sheriff’s office is conducting an internal investigation, along with a criminal investigation.
