Man wanted in murder of Jacksonville woman caught in Florida Keys

Florida Keys police Thursday arrested a man that Jacksonville sheriff deputies were looking for in connection to the shooting death of a woman in Jacksonville the night before.

Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Michael Joseph McPherson, 21, in Key Largo driving south on U.S. 1 at mile marker 94 around 3:15 p.m., according to an agency press release.

Stacey McPherson-Dillon, 45, was shot and killed in Jacksonville Wednesday night, Adam Linhardt, spokesman for the Monroe sheriff’s office, said.

Linhardt would not confirm if Michael McPherson is the victim’s son. Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

Jacksonville deputies issued a “be-on-the-lookout” for Michael McPherson’s black Toyota FJ5 Cruiser to their Monroe counterparts shortly after McPherson-Dillon was found dead. The alert also went out to police in Key West, where McPherson is wanted on a warrant for battery on a person 65 or older, Linhardt said.

The car McPherson was driving when they pulled him over matched the description of the alert, and the plate matched the one provided by Jacksonville deputies, Linhardt said. Monroe deputies found a handgun in the car, according to the press release.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
