Man wanted in Fla., Ga., leads Mooresville officers on chase with stolen car, police say

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Florida man has been arrested in Mooresville after leading officers on a chase in a car stolen from Colorado, according to the Mooresville Police Department (MPD).

Officials say they got an automatic license plate reader (ALPR) alert around 3 p.m. on Monday, March 11, about a car stolen from Colorado now in the area of Williamson Road and Brawley School Road.

Officers found the vehicle and tried to run a traffic stop, but the driver would not stop fleeing westbound on Brawley School Road, according to authorities.

MPD and the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office laid out stop sticks on Brawley School Road around Attleboro Place and The Point Drive and the vehicle came to a stop near Old Post Road and Moors End Loop.

Authorities say the driver ran into a nearby neighborhood but was found by an MPD K9 team. With help from neighbors and law enforcement, the driver, 31-year-old Gerald Pendergrass, of Lauderhill, Florida, was arrested.

According to officials, Pendergrass was wanted in both Florida and Georgia. He is charged with the following:

  • Felony Possession of Stolen Motor Vehicle

  • Felony Flee/Elude Arrest with a Motor Vehicle

  • Felony Identity Theft

  • Misdemeanor Hit and Run

  • Resisting a Public Officer

  • No Operators License

  • Breaking and Entering

  • Driving While Impaired

  • Two counts of Fugitive from Justice

Pendergrass is being held at the Iredell County Detention Center under a $150,000 secured bond.
