Man walking in Joliet hit by city utility worker

JOLIET, Ill. — A man was critically injured after he was hit Wednesday morning by a city worker in Joliet, according to police.

The man, 75, of Joliet, was hit by a city utility worker who was driving a city-owned truck around 11 a.m. near East Cass Street and Herkimer Street, according to the Joliet Police Department.

The worker, 54, of Elwood, was not injured, police said.

The driver was turning left onto Cass Street from Herkimer Street when he hit the man who was in the crosswalk, police said.

Joliet Fire Department personnel took the man to Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, police said.

The crash is still under investigation.
