Man suspected in Phoenix homicide found dead with self-inflicted gunshot wound
The suspect wanted in connection to the shooting death of a woman was found dead by Phoenix police with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Phoenix police were initially investigating a shooting that happened near West Southern Avenue and Seventh Avenue on Friday after 9 p.m. They found two victims who had been shot, according to police. One was a man with a non-life-threatening wound. The other was identified by police as Monica Ornelas, a 31-year-old woman with a critical wound. Both were taken to the hospital, where Ornelas was later pronounced dead, police said.
Juan Solorio-Menera, 39, was identified by witnesses as the suspect in the shooting, according to police.
Patrol officers and tactical units continued to investigate and were led to a house near 21st Avenue and Glenrosa Avenue, according to police. Homicide detectives went to the house and found Solorio-Menera dead due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
