Man who suffered brain injury rides bike across the country to raise awareness

A man who was hit by a drunk driver, and has since recovered, and is using riding his bike to raise awareness of brain injuries.

Seventeen years ago William Galloway was hit while riding his bike.

His recovery took years and many people didn’t think he’d be able to ride again.

Galloway proved them wrong.

He lives in New Jersey but is once again riding across the country to prove people with brain injuries can still do great things.

Since his accident, he’s traveled 36,000 miles, gone through three bikes and five trailers.

He’s currently traveling with a friend and a dog named Pete.

Galloway made a stop in Spring Valley to talk to News Center 7′s Gabrielle Enright.

“I’ve been in below zero weather, I’ve had vans try to run me off the road, I’ve had people try to rob me. Still, I’ve had kindness in many ways. Bicycle enthusiasts and others ask what they could do,” Galloway said.

Galloway relies on donations to keep his trek going.

He is also working to get his bike sign repaired, which was recently damaged.

He and his fellow biker plan to head south to Florida and eventually ride west toward Montana.
