Server stabbed to death at City Winery Chicago; person in custody

CHICAGO — A man is dead after he was stabbed Wednesday evening at a West Loop restaurant.

According to Chicago police, a 47-year-old employee was stabbed multiple times in the back and chest by a 41-year-old man at City Winery Chicago in the 1200 block of W. Randolph Street around 5 p.m.

The victim was rushed to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead.

Coroners in Cook County identified the victim as Francois H. Reed-Swain. WGN News has learned that Reed-Swain was a server at City Winery and worked there for the last 15 months.

City Winery released the following statement following the stabbing:

We are still in shock and letting the police do their work. We feel horrible for the victims family and dealing with trauma of our staff.

Police say the offender was taken into custody. Area Three Detectives are investigating.

Artist Danny Boy, a West Side native, said he was rehearsing inside City Winery when he got word that his 7:30 p.m. show had been canceled.
