Man shot in neck in shootout on Akron street

AKRON, Ohio (WJW) — A 35-year-old man was shot in the neck in an exchange of gunfire in a residential neighborhood early Thursday.

Police received a call just after 4:30 a.m. for a shooting along Fuller Street, which is nearby. While en route, they learned a shooting victim was at a home along Weeks Street, near the 6th Avenue intersection, according to a news release.

The 35-year-old man, who was shot in the neck, was transported to a hospital. His injury is considered non-life-threatening, according to police.

Detectives learned unknown suspects came to the Weeks Street home and opened fire.

“After the initial shots rang out, there appeared to have been an exchange of gunfire that resulted in the victim being struck,” reads the release.

No other injuries were reported. A car and another home nearby were also struck by gunfire, according to police.

Officers collected shell casings and other evidence from the scene. Investigators are still trying to piece together what happened and identify the shooting suspects.
