Man shot to death in apartment hallway: Police

AKRON, Ohio (WJW) — An investigation is underway after a man was found shot to death in the hallway of an Akron high-rise apartment.

A 911 call reported the shooting at the apartment building in the 1200 block of Everton Drive at about 10 p.m. on Monday, April 29.

The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victim as 37-year-old Gregory Bernard Dykes of Akron, and ruled his death a homicide, caused by a gunshot wound to the head.

Dykes was found on the eighth floor of the building with an apparent gunshot wound to the head, officials previously said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are unknown, but detectives believe there was an altercation between the suspect and the victim moments before the fatal shooting,” reads a Tuesday news release.

Investigators are now working to identify a person of interest in the case.
