Man to serve 16 years for rape of child

May 15—A London man charged with raping an 11-year-old last year will now serve a 16-year sentence.

Cody Ray Skidmore, 29, of R. Johnson Road, entered a guilty plea to first-degree rape and first-degree sexual abuse of the child.

The indictment states that Skidmore "engaged in sexual intercourse" with the child on April 9, 2023. The sexual abuse incident occurred on Aug. 17, 2023.

Skidmore was recommended to serve 16 years on the rape charge and five years on the sex abuse charge. The five-year sentence, however, will run at the same time — giving Skidmore a total of 16 years.

As part of the plea, however, Skidmore is to have no contact with the victim and must register as a lifetime sexual offender.
