Man seriously injured in knife attack after argument on German train

A 20-year-old man was attacked with a knife and seriously injured on a train travelling in Germany's Rhineland on Monday morning.

According to a police spokesman, the man's injuries were not life-threatening.

The victim is said to have got into an argument with a 35-year-old while travelling on the train between between the city of Koblenz and the small town of Lahnstein 6 kilometres further south along the Rhine. The altercation led to the knife attack.

The suspected perpetrator was detained.

The victim was taken to a hospital in Koblenz. Police said there had been no danger to bystanders.

The incident caused delays in rail traffic, according to the police.
