Man seriously injured in crash in Albert Lea

May 19—A man was seriously injured Sunday afternoon after crashing into a minivan in northern Albert Lea near the intersection of Bridge Avenue and Westron Street.

Police stated Christopher Seul, 35, was taken by ambulance to Mayo Clinic Heath System in Albert Lea and later airlifted to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. His condition is not known at this time.

A press release states Albert Lea police were dispatched at 1:12 p.m. after receiving a report of a vehicle and motorcycle crash near the intersection. When officers arrived, they found the motorcycle driver in the roadway injured.

Officers determined Orville Johnson, 87, was driving north on Bridge Avenue in a 2017 Chrysler Pacific and attempted to turn west onto Westron Street. Seul was traveling south on Bridge Avenue on a 2006 Yamaha CP250 scooter.

Johnson reportedly failed to yield to Seul, who had the right-of-way, causing Seul to strike the passenger side of the van.

Seul was not wearing a helmet and does not have a motorcycle endorsement, according to police.

Police were assisted by Albert Lea Fire Rescue and Mayo Clinic Ambulance.
