Man sentened to life in prison for gunning down ex-wife and her son near DeLand

An ex-Marine was sentenced to life in prison for killing his ex-wife and her son during a confrontation over electricity in a house they shared near DeLand.

Michael Williams, 49, was convicted as charged of two counts of second-degree murder with a firearm for gunning down his ex-wife, Marsha Ebanks-Williams, 48, and her son, Robert Adams, 28, two years ago near DeLand.

Circuit Judge Randell Rowe III sentenced Williams on Friday to two consecutive life terms.

Adams' two small children, a boy and a girl, 5 and 6 at the time, were in the home and witnessed their father and grandmother being shot.

Even though they were divorced, Williams and his ex-wife were still living in the home on East Parkway near DeLand. The terms of the divorce called for them to live together until the end of the year.

Adams was also staying there. The ex-wife and son had their own rooms while Williams was sleeping on the couch.

A simmering dispute over electric use boiled over on Sept. 18, 2022, when Williams shot and killed the two. Williams testified at trial that he shot in self-defense.

Assistant State Attorney Mark Interlicchio showed the jurors pictures of Williams taken immediately after the shooting which did not indicate signs of a fight. Williams only had a small scratch above his mouth and appeared to have a redness on a portion of his torso.
