Man sentenced for sodomy of co-worker in 2022

ST. LOUIS – Rather than face trial, a St. Louis man agreed to plead guilty on Monday to sodomizing a former co-worker in September 2022.

Prosecutors with the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office reached a plea deal with Cyrano Jones, 34, and his attorney.

The circuit attorney’s office initially charged Jones with first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy, and tampering with a witness in a felony prosecution. The prosecution withdrew the rape and tampering charges to secure a guilty plea.

Jones had surveillance video in his home in the 700 block of North 21st Street, which captured parts of the crime.

The victim gave a statement in court on Monday.

The presiding judge said he considered rejecting the plea deal, stating that it was too lenient. He believed Jones would have been convicted if the case went to trial and could have faced life imprisonment.

However, the judge ultimately agreed to it to spare the victim the trauma of going through with a trial, as well as sparing his staff from having to watch the video of the incident in court.

Jones was sentenced to 15 years in state prison.
