Man sentenced after smuggling liquid MDMA in 270 French wine bottles

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A 26-year-old man was sentenced to 14 years on Friday for smuggling liquid MDMA into roughly 270 wine bottles.

Officials arrested the man in September 2022 when agents discovered the bottles containing 266 kilos, a street value of about $14 million worth of liquid MDMA within an air cargo consignment from France. Police said the bottles were on their way to a self-storage facility.

“The AFP cannot overstate the amount of harm that 266kg of MDMA could have caused to our community if it had not been intercepted by law enforcement,” Australian Federal Police Detective Acting Superintendent David MacGregor said.
