FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The man who beat, robbed, and ultimately killed a former U.S. Coast Guard was sentenced on Monday, according to the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office.

On the morning of Dec. 30, 2022, the Clovis Police Department reports they responded to Herndon and Clovis where 78-year-old Frank Moore was found suffering from a major head injury. Moore was transported to a local hospital where he ultimately died days later.

A fundraiser created by his family said Moore had served in the U.S. Coast Guard, retired as a truck driver, and left behind his wife of 55 years, his three adult children, four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Upon investigating the scene that morning, detectives say they found the suspect, 37-year-old Joseph Wright nearby with the help of descriptions given by witnesses. Wright was found with Moor’s cell phone and was taken into custody without incident.

On Monday, Joseph Wright was sentenced to 15 years to life for the robbery and killing of Frank Moore outside of a Clovis Dollar Tree at Herndon and Clovis Avenue in 2022. Wright had previously pled “No Contest” to the charges in Feb. 2024.
