Hurtt pleaded guilty in April of last year to one count of conspiracy to commit kidnapping. As part of his plea deal, murder charges were dropped against him.

Those charges are connected to the July, 2020 death of Michael Hall, 41, of Carthage.
Hall’s body was found partially burned and decomposed on property Hurtt owns southwest of Joplin.

Five other people were charged in the case.

They have each been convicted for their roles in Hall’s death, including kidnapping him, torturing him and killing him. Hurtt is the third person to be sentenced for his role in the incident.
