WYTHE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — A man was sentenced to more than 20 years in prison for the murder of Lloyd Trenton Stilwell in Wythe County in 2022.

According to court records, Kenneth Michael Sayers was sentenced to 28 years and 3 months for Second-degree murder and 5 years for Felony possession of a weapon. The sentences will run concurrently with one another.

As we previously reported, in June 2022 the Wythe County Sheriff’s Office found Stilwell’s body in the 100 block of Stone Drive. During the initial investigation, it was discovered that Sayers called 911 and reported that he was walking his dogs when he found Stilwell’s body.

However, as the investigation continued, deputies learned that witnesses reported hearing a gunshot. Sayers changed his initial story multiple times and told authorities that he was present when Stilwell was shot.

Authorities served a search warrant at Sayers’s home where they found ammunition. He was arrested and charged in connection to the death of Stilwell. In an interview at the Sheriff’s Office, Sayers admitted to killing Stilwell.
