Man sentenced for failure to register as a sex offender

WYOMING COUNTY, WV (WVNS) — A Wyoming County man pleaded guilty and was convicted of one felony count of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender.

According to Gregory Bishop, the Wyoming County Prosecutor, this occurred on March 11, 2024. Shawn Paul Murphy, 37, from Sophia received his sentencing on April 17, 2024. Violation of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender for a first offense is punishable for one to up to five years in prison.

Murphy visited the Jesse Detachment of the West Virginia State Police on February 1, 2024 to update his sex offender registry. A further investigation also revealed that Murphy did not update his car and address.
