Man sentenced to 50 years after poisoning newborn with antifreeze in bottle

SOUTH FULTON, GEORGIA (WJW) – A man who tried to poison his newborn baby with antifreeze in a bottle has been sentenced to 50 years in prison.

According to the City of South Fulton, Georgia Police Department, Curtis Jack picked up bottles of breastmilk from the mother of his child on October 1, 2020. At the time, the mother was being hospitalized after giving birth to their daughter on September 24, 2020.

According to the police department, Jack had previously insisted the woman terminate her pregnancy.

According to police, Jack delivered the breastmilk to the baby’s grandmother, who was also looking after the mother’s other daughter. After getting the bottle, the baby became critically ill within one day.

Jack was arrested on October 15, 2020, after the infant tested positive for ethylene glycol, a chemical often found in automotive antifreeze.

According to police, Jack admitted to detectives that he added antifreeze to the breastmilk.

During Jack’s trial, testimonies from the child’s mother, grandmother, law enforcement officers and medical experts were presented. During the trial, it was shown how easy it was for Jack to poison the breastmilk, according to police.

Jack was sentenced to 50 years, with 40 years to serve in custody, according to police.
