Man running from Fort Worth officers hit, killed by truck on Interstate 30, police say
A man who ran from Fort Worth police officers on Friday morning was hit and killed by a pickup truck on Interstate 30 during morning rush hour, according to police.
At about 6:10 a.m., officers responded to a burglary call in the 1200 block of Oakland Boulevard in east Fort Worth, police said in a news release. Witnesses reported that a man was trying to enter a closed medical facility by pulling on the doors.
When officers arrived, they found that the man had moved from the initial location to a nearby business, where he again tried to enter, police said. Officers tried to speak with the man, who fled on foot toward I-30W, according to the release.
Additional responding officers drove down the embankment to try to keep the suspect from running into oncoming traffic, police said.
The man crossed the Bridge Street service road, jumped over the guardrail and ran into traffic on I-30 westbound, police said. He was struck by a pickup truck. The driver of the truck stopped to render aid while emergency personnel responded to the crash scene.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify him once next of kin has been notified.
No one else was injured in the accident.
