Man rescued after falling 300 feet down cliff

A man was hospitalized after falling more than 300 feet down a cliff next to Angeles Crest Highway in the Angeles National Forest Thursday morning.

The man, whose identity was not released, fell over the side of the cliff just after 2 a.m. near mile marker 27.2, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Montrose Search and Rescue Team said on X, formerly Twitter.

Authorities used a fire engine and a helicopter to rescue the man and take him to a local hospital for treatment. His current condition is unknown.

“Our team wants the public to use extreme caution when near hillsides,” Montrose SAR said. “Many cliffs in our area are extremely steep. The ground can have loose gravel and may give way. You should say a safe distance from any edge.”
