Man receives 6-year sentence after attempting to sexually assault woman in backyard

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man was sentenced to six years in prison Thursday after attempting to sexually assault a woman in her backyard nearly three years ago.

Leroy Morales, 57, was found guilty of first-degree attempted sodomy, second-degree attempted sexual abuse and private indecency in Oct. 2023. The incident took place in Oct. 2021 in the Piedmont neighborhood.

The jury also found Morales not guilty of two counts of first-degree burglary and harassment.

Morales is in custody in Multnomah County and will be taken to the Oregon Department of Corrections to serve his sentence.
