Man Could Possibly Lose His Nose From Extreme Plastic Surgery

On Botched, 32-year-old Rodrigo Alves was looking for a solution to his most recent surgery — a nose job that went horribly wrong. Alves has had 42 plastic surgeries and spent 305,000 British pounds, or the equivalent of $450,000.

Alves went to plastic surgeons Paul Nassif and Terry Dubrow and told them about how he began to experience problems shortly after the surgery. “First I started to see a dent on the left side. My nose started to get tighter and harder to breathe,” he said. He went on to say that “after a month, my nose started to become smaller and smaller and shrink. I went to see a doctor in Spain. The doctor said, ‘Well, you have a bacteria.'”

Alves’s plastic surgeon used cadaver cartilage for the nose surgery, but the problem with cadaver cartilage is that it can compromise the patient’s own immune system.

Dubrow told Alves, “The fact that you’ve had so much surgery in the past, you’ve basically disrupted so much of the blood supply and then put a piece of dead tissue in that, that that caused the whole thing to die.”

After the doctors tried to take a look in Alves’s nose (which was so collapsed they couldn’t see inside) they gave Alves a grim diagnosis. Nassif said, “If you try to insult your skin one more time now while it’s healing there’s a high possibility that if you let one of these doctors touch your nose now, this will turn black and then die and then fall off.”
