BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A man of no permanent address pleaded guilty in six separate cases Monday following a series of thefts, according to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office.

Javarius L. Bumpers, 32, committed six thefts in Buffalo, Cheektowaga and Amherst between December 2022 and August 2023.

In December, Bumpers stole a victim’s vehicle outside of a gas station convenience store on East Lovejoy Street, according to officials. He was found a short time later asleep in the vehicle and was taken into custody. Bumpers was arraigned in April.

Officials said in February, the defendant stole bookbags and candy from a grocery store on the 900 block of Broadway in Buffalo. He had thrown an object to break the glass and was arrested the next day.

In March on two separate occasions, he stole a vehicle from an auto dealership in Cheektowaga and merchandise from a convenience store in Amherst, according to officials.

Officials said Bumpers was found nearby a store in April with a bag that contained merchandise from the store. Buffalo Police officers had responded to a burglary on the 1700 block of Broadway and found a broken window and a crowbar inside.

Finally, in August, Bumpers stole merchandise from a store on the 1100 block of Genesee Street in Buffalo, officials said.

Bumpers pleaded guilty to the following:

  • fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property

  • two counts of petit larceny

He faces a maximum of 18 years in prison as a second felony offender and remains held without bail.
