Man killed in hit-run outside Planet Fitness in Fresno. It could be a homicide, police say

Fresno police detectives on Friday investigated a fatal hit-and-run that happened in a parking lot outside a Planet Fitness.

Police received several 911 calls just before 10:30 a.m. about the collision at the north end of Manchester Mall at Blackstone and Dakota avenues.

Officers arrived and found a man in his 50s lying in the parking lot.

He was allegedly ran over by a woman driving a red vehicle, Fresno Police Lt. Paul Cervantes said later in an update.

The man was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

The woman fled the scene south on Blackstone, Cervantes said.

The department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit was investigating the collision, along with homicide detectives.

“We’re both collectively working that case together to make a determination as to whether or not this was an intentional act,” Cervantes said.

Officers interviewed multiple witnesses and talked to several businesses for surveillance video.

Cervantes said “there was some information” about an argument between the victim and the suspect

He said it’s not known if “this is going to be domestic or if it’s going to be as to what the relationship is.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 559-621-7000.
