Man who killed girlfriend’s father in 2022 sentenced to 19 years

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man has been sentenced to 19 years in prison in connection to a 2022 Portland homicide.

Zachary Tyler Hackman, 24, accepted a plea deal from the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office on Monday. Hackman killed 54-year-old James Orlando Harris, who was his girlfriend’s father at the time, according to the Multnomah County D.A.’s Office.

Two weeks after the slaying, police arrested Hackman on October 23, 2022, charging him with murder. He was lodged at the Multnomah County Detention Center and hasn’t left ever since.

On October 9, 2022, just after 6:30 p.m., the Portland Police Bureau responded to reports of “suspicious circumstances” near Northeast Marine Drive and Northeast 2nd Avenue and discovered Harris dead.

Hackman was convicted of first-degree manslaughter and second-degree abuse of a corpse, the D.A.’s office said.
