Man killed in collision with tractor-trailer on I-295 in Hopewell

HOPEWELL − A Petersburg man was killed early Thursday morning in a crash involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 295, state police said.

Gregory Allen Joyner, 52, died when the pick-up truck he was driving changed lanes and struck the front of a Freightliner tractor-trailer, state police Sgt. Jessica Shehan said in an email. Both vehicles went out of control, and the Freighliner pushed the pick-up truck into a sign and some trees.

Joyner, who was wearing a seat belt, was killed instantly. There was no word on whether the tractor-trailer driver was injured.

The wreck happened just before 7 a.m. Thursday on northbound I-295 about a mile north of the state Route 36 interchange.

An investigation is ongoing.
