Man involved in fatal shootout with officers in Syracuse identified

Christopher Murphy, 33, of Salina, was confirmed as the shooter in a gunfight that left two police officers and Murphy dead, according to Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick.

Late Sunday, two Syracuse police officers attempted to pull over a suspicious vehicle near the intersection of Emerson Avenue and Hamilton Street. The driver sped off but the officers got the license plate, which led them to a residence on Darien Drive in Salina.

From there, a gunfight ensued, with officers on scene and the suspect exchanging multiple shots. A Syracuse Police officer, an Onondaga County Sheriff's deputy and Murphy were all hit and all three died of their injuries.

The names of the two officers have not been released.

Murphy lived at the address on Darien Drive, where the shooting happened, according to county voting records.
