Man hit by truck while taking photos of hit-and-run damage

EL CAJON, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A man involved in a car crash in El Cajon was struck by a separate vehicle after he exited his vehicle Tuesday night, according to the El Cajon Police Department.

Around 10:20 p.m. Tuesday, officers said two cars collided in the 400 block of West Washington Avenue.

One person hospitalized in East County head-on crash

After investigating, they determined the driver of one of the involved vehicles left his car to take photos of the damage. Shortly after, police said he was struck and seriously injured by a pickup truck traveling eastbound on West Washington. He was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Police said the driver fled eastbound and has yet to be found. According to witnesses, the pickup truck was possibly white or gray and might have sustained damage, including a missing mirror, on the passenger side of the vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing. Police have not determined if drugs and/or alcohol were factors in this crash. If you have any information, you are encouraged to contact El Cajon Police.
