Man hit, killed by suspected DUI driver

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A 44-year-old man is dead after being struck and killed by a suspected DUI driver in the Colina Del Sol neighborhood Thursday night, authorities said.

According to the San Diego Police Department, the incident happened around 9:10 p.m. when a pedestrian was running southbound from the north curb line in the 4900 block of El Cajon Boulevard.

At that same time, police said a 20-year-old man was driving in the eastbound left lane of El Cajon Boulevard. The pedestrian reportedly stopped in the right lane, immediately turned around and ran northbound into the path of the vehicle.

SDPD said the vehicle struck the pedestrian, causing major head trauma. The injured man was transported to Scripps Mercy Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. His identity has not been released at this time.

The 20-year-old driver was evaluated and arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, police confirmed.
