Man hit and killed by private sanitation truck in Greenwich Village: NYPD

MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) — A man was hit and killed by a private garbage truck backing up on a Greenwich Village street early Thursday, according to police.

The victim, 35, was standing in the middle of the street when he was struck near West 4th and Cornelia streets in Greenwich Village at around 5:20 a.m., authorities said. The truck’s rear wheels ran over the man, who suffered bodily injuries and died at the scene, according to video and the NYPD.

The sanitation truck driver, 35, remained at the scene, police said. There have been no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.

The victim has not been identified.
