Man held in connection to shooting that led to APD chief’s crash
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The man accused of a shooting that Albuquerque Police Department Chief Harold Medina said caused him to take off and crash into a car will be held behind bars. Michael Mountjoy was arrested last week for the February shooting.

According to the criminal complaint, Mountjoy was fighting with a man near Central and Alvarado when he fired a single shot but didn’t hit anyone. Chief Medina was in his unmarked truck with his wife right next to the fight. Once the gun went off, Medina sped through a red light and crashed into another car severely injuring the driver.
The state filed a motion to keep Mountjoy locked up based on his criminal history and being a felon in possession of a gun. Judge Jennifer Wernersbach granted the state’s pretrial detention hearing.
