A Leeds man has been sentenced to life imprisonment after pleading guilty to the murder of a woman who refused to have sex with him.

Karar Ali Karar stabbed Jodi Miller, 21, with a kitchen knife 15 times to the head and body in a “horrific assault” after she rejected repeated advances at a flat in Leeds.

The killer, 29, carried out the attack in front of a 15-year-old schoolboy on February 26 of this year.

Karar was handed a life sentence with a minimum of 25 years, at Leeds Crown Court on Thursday.

He pleaded guilty to Ms Miller’s murder - which took place at friend Abdi Dhoobe’s flat - shortly before he was due to go on trial on Wednesday.

Miss Miller was among a group of friends who would often meet at the flat and Karar was on the "periphery" of the group and would occasionally visit the flat.

The court heard Karar began pestering Miss Miller for sex in the days leading up to the attack.

At one stage in the evening, a fight broke out as others in the flat told Karar to leave Ms Miller alone.

CCTV footage played to court showed Karar leave the flat and return on a number of occasions.

He picked up a kitchen knife from his own property before returning and carrying out the attack.

Miss Miller tried to flee the basement flat as she was attacked, but Karar tripped her up as she tried to escape.

He then continued to stab her. At one stage he stopped the attack, kicked the woman and called her a prostitute.

Detective Inspector Victoria Glover said: "We welcome the sentencing of Karar today for what was an horrific assault on a defenceless victim.

"Her only provocation to him was to reject his unwanted sexual advances and for that she was subjected to a savage level of violence which tragically resulted in her losing her life.

"Karar is a clearly an extremely dangerous man and we hope that seeing him convicted and behind bars may bring a measure of comfort to Jodi's loved ones.

"We are thankful they have been spared the ordeal of a trial, and wish to commend their bravery through what has been a hugely traumatic time."
