BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man found guilty of transporting fentanyl was sentenced Wednesday to 18 months in jail and an additional 18 months on mandatory supervision, according to prosecutors.

Joe Wayne Young III, 32, was convicted last month of transporting fentanyl and other drug-related offenses. He was arrested in January 2022 during a probation check in Oildale.

A backpack belonging to Young contained plastic baggies with fentanyl inside and a digital scale with white residue, prosecutors said. A small amount of methamphetamine, two Glock handguns and drug paraphernalia were found in Young’s bedroom.
