Man found shot to death near Las Vegas Strip, police say

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A man was shot to death Wednesday morning near the Las Vegas Strip, police said.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officials were investigating a homicide at Sixth Street and Hoover Avenue, approximately a mile and a half north of the Las Vegas Strip. Police said around 4:30 a.m., dispatchers received a call regarding a man who was lying on the sidewalk bleeding.

When officers arrived, they found a man, estimated to be in his 60s, on the ground with a gunshot wound. He was unable to respond to first responders and medical technicians who were trying to help him. The man was pronounced dead on the scene. Law enforcement officials said this man was known to frequent the area and was apparently “unhoused.”

Homicide detectives were on the scene Wednesday morning, and investigators believe there may be surveillance video of the deadly incident from cameras in the area. There was little information Wednesday regarding the identity of a suspect in the shooting, only that witnesses identified a man wearing a light-colored shirt and blue jeans who was seen leaving the area after gunfire was heard.

Sixth Avenue was closed Wednesday morning from Charleston Boulevard to Gass Avenue due to the homicide investigation. Commuters were asked to avoid the area.

Investigators ask anyone with information on the shooting to contact the LVMPD Homicide Section at 702-828-3521 or via email at homicide@lvmpd.com. Additionally, those wishing to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 or via the organization’s website.
