Man found murdered in St. Pete apartment identified by police

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla (WFLA) — The St. Petersburg Police Department has identified the 49-year-old man who was found murdered at Marisol Vista apartments as Timothy Pustelak.

Just after 7:30 p.m. Monday, officers conducted a welfare check at the Pustelak’s apartment on 11th Street North after his out-of-state girlfriend reported she hadn’t heard from him.

“Upon arrival, officers found the victim deceased on the floor with upper body trauma,” said department spokeswoman Ashley Limardo.

Darrin Proffitt lives in the same building where Pustelak’s body was discovered, and said detectives showed up at his door.

“They asked If I knew the person that lived there, and I said ‘Oh yeah, Tim,’ and that was it,” Proffitt said.

The man’s exact cause of death remains under investigation. Police have not identified a suspect as of this writing.
