Man found with gun at Lakewood High School, police say

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — A man was charged with attempted murder following his arrest at a St. Petersburg high school.

Officers arrested James Flournoy, 19, in connection to a shooting earlier this month.

Police found Flournoy on the Lakewood High School campus on Tuesday, but he is not a student there. He was registering for Lakewood Community School, an adult education program, at the time of his arrest.

Officers found a handgun and marijuana when they searched his backpack, according to St. Pete police.

Flournoy was identified as the suspect in an April 3 shooting, where he was accused of firing at a car with two people inside. The incident happened on 38th Street South, which is located behind a Walmart on US-19.

The driver suffered a non-life threatening injury and the passenger was not hurt. Flournoy was charged with two accounts of second degree attempted murder, possession of a weapon on school grounds and felony possession of marijuana.
