Man found guilty of attempted murder after stabbing

TOPEKA (KSNT) – A Shawnee County Jury has found Austin Langley, 44, guilty of attempted murder in relation to a 2020 stabbing incident.

On July 2, 2020, officers with the Topeka Police Department responded to a reported stabbing at a fireworks stand around in the Dillons parking lot at 5311 SW 22nd Pl. Witnesses told police Langley walked up behind a man and stabbed him in the back before running away. Topeka police arrested Langley shortly after the report a few blocks from the stand.

On March 13, Langley was found guilty of attempted murder in the first degree and aggravated battery – knowingly causing great bodily harm.

According to the District Attorney’s Office, Langley’s sentencing date hasn’t been scheduled yet. He has a criminal assignment docket scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on March 21, 2024.
