Man found dead floating in south Sacramento County canal. Deputies investigating homicide

Sacramento County sheriff’s investigators continue to probe a Saturday homicide that left a man dead, but information about how the man died remained scarce.

Sheriff’s officials reported a man dead around 4:30 p.m. Saturday in the 7000 block of McComber Street, a short distance north of Florin Road and west of French Road, in the county’s Morrison Creek area.

A caller reported to sheriff’s deputies just before 4:25 p.m. that he thinks his friend may be dead in a canal, near the 7000 block of McComber Street. The area not far from Florin Road and Florin Perkins Road is dotted by large industrial warehouses, bordering railroad tracks.

Investigators said the man suffered blunt force trauma to his head, according to archived radio dispatches reviewed by The Sacramento Bee.

The death, initially deemed suspicious, was later determined to be a homicide, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Spokesman Sgt. Amar Gandhi said Sunday a cause of death and other information remained unavailable.
