Man flees from officers after reckless hit-and-run in Farmersville

FARMERSVILLE, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A man was arrested after allegedly driving recklessly, fleeing from authorities, and ultimately injuring an officer Sunday evening, according to the Farmersville Police Department.

Police say around 6:40 p.m. they responded to the 500 block of North Rose Avenue for a hit-and-run accident. Witnesses reported a man was driving recklessly, ignoring posted stop signs, and colliding into a parked trailer causing severe damage before fleeing on foot.

Responding officers report an injured passenger was found in the suspect vehicle and transported them to a local hospital.

Investigators say prior to the collision, the suspect later identified as Reynaldo Ortiz Lopez was driving a Honda sedan, brandished a firearm at a victim, and intentionally crashed into the victim’s vehicle, immobilizing it.

Officers say they received calls advising Lopez was seen walking in the area of Costner Street and Hester Avenue. He was contacted and given multiple verbal commands to surrender but he refused.

Police say an active struggle ensued with Lopez, ultimately injuring an officer. He attempted to flee and in conjunction with a K-9 partner, Lopez was taken into custody without further incident.

Detectives say Lopez was treated at a local hospital before being booked on multiple charges.

While an arrest was made, authorities are asking those with additional information to contact the Farmersville Police Department at 559-747-0321.
