Man Survives Falling From California Cliff While Trying to Save Bird

A man was winched to safety by a helicopter after falling off a steep cliff in Trabuco Canyon, California, while rescuing his escaped bird on Sunday, March 17.

Witnesses called for help after the man tumbled 12 feet down the cliff, with the Orange County Fire Authority saying there was a further 40-foot vertical drop beneath him.

“He was successfully rescued and brought to a safe location with his bird tucked under his shirt,” the fire service wrote in a follow-up post on X.
