Man facing charges after deadly overnight crash near Pembroke, troopers say

ROBESON COUNTY, N.C. (WBTW) — A man is facing felony charges after a crash early Thursday morning killed a Pembroke woman, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Cierra Rochelle Jacobs died in the two-vehicle crash on Union Chapel Road at Evergreen Church Road near Pembroke, 1st Sgt. S.B. Lewis said. Troopers responded at about 2 a.m.

James Christian Cummings, also of Pembroke, is being charged with felony death by motor vehicle, driving while impaired and several other charges, Lewis said. Speed is also considered to be a factor in the crash.

Cummings was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pickup east on Evergreen Church Road when he failed to stop at the intersection and hit Jacobs’ Kia Rio, which was going south on Union Chapel Road, Lewis said.

Jacobs died at the scene, Lewis said. Cummings was arrested after refusing treatment for minor injuries at UNC Health Southeastern.
